Having a father and aunt who were both architects in Poland, Joanna was exposed to art and architecture from a very early age. Ever since she can remember, she was drawing and painting. Her father would layout old plans or large blank sheets on the floor to give her and her brother a free space to dream up projects. But, her professional desire was not to become an architect or designer at first. She really wanted to be an art historian or an expert on the history of architecture. As Joanna will attest, one cannot appreciate that which is new without proper respect for that which is old. One important reason for this was because of her extensive travels during her childhood, which exposed her to some of the most historically preserved cities in the world. For eight summers, she visited several countries including Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Hungary and the former Czechoslovakia. Her biggest joy on these family trips was being able to walk the streets in a foreign country and experience all the great architecture, from museums and old churches to monasteries and historical landmarks. Joanna’s travels continue to have a lasting impact on her design aesthetic.
After high school, Joanna reconsidered her career goals and enrolled in the Bachelor of Architecture program at Polytechnic of Wroclaw. It was a joy for her family to see her follow in her father and aunt’s footsteps. When she graduated, she began working as a junior designer in her native homeland and married her college sweetheart, Robert. Feeling the urge to continue her travels and seek out new job opportunities, Joanna and her husband moved to Canada with their son. Since she was in a new country, she enrolled in the British Columbia Institute where she earned an interior design degree to expand her education and make new contacts. While going to school and raising a family, she built architectural models as a consultant. She also worked for BNB Interiors, which specialized in residential and commercial spaces.
Her travels not completed, Joanna and her family moved to Los Angeles. She started working for boutique interior design firm Darcy Carroll, which worked exclusively with high-end multi-million dollar homes in California and New York.
Joanna’s international experience, spanning two continents, makes her an integral member of Arch-Interiors. Her impressive portfolio in residential, commercial and institutional projects speaks volumes about her well-rounded technical and design sensibility. With each project, she brings precision, skill and a profound commitment that enriches our clients’ experiences working with our firm.
Inspired by a mother who is in the fashion industry, Ashley’s upbringing sparked an interest in design at a very early age. Throughout childhood, she was constantly fascinated by how one’s surroundings would instantaneously impact one’s emotions, and the large effect design elements had on her senses. Her parents owned a party planning and supply store, and for many years her imagination was intrigued by the creative process of events and celebrations she was able to assist with. This sparked a desire to create beautiful and lively environments.
Anxious to begin on a creative career path, in High School she obtained her first job at a local theater. It was her upbeat personality and keen design sense that led her to quickly become Special Events Manager. Ashley was in charge of all set design and coordination of events that were performed at the theater. Her passion and creativity was frequently praised by numerous people who admired watching her ideas and designs come to life.
After several years of working at the Theaters, Ashley started her own event planning business and simultaneously enrolled at Brooks College in Interior Design, interested in the more permanent environments of the design field. Ashley was introduced to Arch-Interiors as an intern and was immediately offered a design position upon receiving an Associates Degree in Interior design. Ashley is blessed with a calm and friendly disposition, a plus in the frenetic process of interior design. Her breadth of design capabilities extends beyond interiors into social media and web design skills, graphic creativity and 3-D arts capabilities, making her an invaluable team member.
